Our Transfer SystemsWe use the digital film scanner "flashscan HD" from the Berlin-based company "MWA Nova GmbH" for the transfer of your 8mm films. This scanner has been specially developed for demanding broadcast, post-production, and dubbing environments. During operation, we can adjust the brightness, and through the special "Remote" control, influence the white balance, gamma, and black level. Thanks to the many guide rollers on the device, even films with poor perforation can pass through the scanner relatively smoothly. Thus, we really get the most out of your 8mm films! Transfer ProcessAfter cleaning your films, they are transferred into a raw format using the "flashscan" scanner. This raw file is then cleared of unusable scenes (black, completely overexposed, etc.), color-corrected, and contrast-optimized depending on the scene. Only then are the processed files encoded into the format you desire and subsequently copied to your chosen media (DVD, hard disk, Blu-ray disk, USB stick, etc.). This way, we are able to deliver every conceivable format in stunning quality. |
Film CleaningThe years have proved to us that all films need to be cleaned! We use professional film cleaners to carefully hand-clean your film. This process consists of feeding the film through special soft cloths moistened by the cleaning solutions. The film gets cleaned once - more if needed. The cleaning process traps most dust and unwanted dirt particles. We recommend special treatment with a solution called “Film Renew” if the film has mold build-up or if it has become brittle. "FilmRenew" is rarely needed. |
“Film Renew”We use professional “Film Renew - Urbanski Film” to clean the film if it has mold buildup or has become overly brittle. Depending upon the condition of the film, we either soak the film in a bath of FilmRenew or carefully treat it with cloths soaked by FilmRenew solution. The excess solution is later removed. |
Splice RenewalRenewing splices is very time-consuming and must be done with great care. We use professional film cement glue to complete the splice. A splice renewal happens when we find a broken splice, a missing leader, or a splice which needs replacing. (Per large reel, we perform 3 splices - free of charge. If more are needed, which is rare, then we charge per additional splice.) |
